Des Moines, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa Department of Education has awarded competitive grants to ten school districts for therapeutic classrooms. The districts will split roughly 2.35 million dollars.

Two of the ten are here in the corridor: Spirit Lake and Storm Lake. George-Little Rock is also one of the recipients.

Funding was established through the Iowa legislature in 2020. Department of Education Director McKenzie Snow says the program supports the mental health needs of children through skill-building, support to cope with stress and trauma, and crises intervention.
