Sioux Falls NWS Nears Record Number of Severe Weather Warnings

Sioux Falls, SD (NorthwestIowaNow) Has this year seemed like a busier severe weather season?

The total number of warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls through July 9th, including both tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, stands at 226.

That is the second-highest total since 2010. The highest was in 2010, when 282 warnings were issued. We are currently 56 warnings away from surpassing that mark.

In the KICD listening area, there have been 73 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and 23 Tornado Warnings issued so far this year.

The most active month to date was April.
