Sioux City, IA — The U.S. Attorney’s Office thanks Okoboji Police for their assistance in a drug distribution case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde says they have reached a plea bargain with 49-year-old Dion Miller from Fort Dodge. Wehde says prosecutors had evidence that Miller sold methamphetamine and cocaine to individuals working with law enforcement on three occasions in 2024 and 2025. Miller agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute drugs. At one point Miller fled the state to avoided arrest, but was detained in Jackson, Mississippi and was extradited to Iowa.
He is still in custody awaiting sentencing by District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand and faces up to life in prison and a 25 million dollar fine.
Okoboji Police Chief Jason Peterson tells KICD News his agency’s involvement was an officer assisting the Iowa Lakes Drug Task Force in the investigation, and none of the transactions necessarily occurred in Okoboji or Dickinson County.
