New Details on Crash that Closed Highway 71

Superior, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa State Patrol has released information about the accident that closed Highway 71 Wednesday afternoon. The drivers of two vehicles that struck each other head-on were both transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, but their injuries were described as minor.
20 year old Brooklyn Holmes of Jackson, Minnesota was Southbound on Highway 71 about a mile South of the state border when she attempted to pass two vehicles. She was in a legal passing zone when she started the manuever, but was in a no passing zone when she reached the crest of the hill and struck the Northbound vehicle driven by 18 year old Geovani Rodriguez Gonzalez from Austin, Minnesota. She exited her vehicle before it burst into flames.
Holmes was cited for improper passing.
The incident ocurred at about noon.
