Linn Grove, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids are getting a major financial boost for their water systems. USDA grants are helping these small towns upgrade outdated infrastructure, ensuring clean, drinkable water for years to come.

Linn Grove Mayor Aaron Anderson says this funding will finally get Lin Grove connected to the Iowa Lakes Regional Water Supply.

That initial plan to connect to rural water had to be split into two phases after last year’s floods contaminated the city’s well with E. coli. Phase one was completed last year, bringing rural water to the city so residents didn’t have to keep trucking water in.

Mayor Anderson says work on the second phase, which involves replacing the entire infrastructure, begins this week. The project is estimated to cost around three-and-a-half million dollars, a price tag that would have been impossible for the town to manage without help.

He says projects like this are vital for small communities and give them a sustainable future.

Anderson says once this project is completed, the town plans to look for grants to fix their roads.
