Estherville, IA — The Emmet County Museum continues to expand its exhibits and displays while making local history more accessible to residents and visitors.
Board President Roy Gage says much of the museum’s recent growth was made possible through a gift from former teacher and author Mary Ann Waldron.
Gage says the additional space has allowed volunteers to create several new displays, including recreations of familiar local businesses and attractions from Emmet County’s past.
One of the stories that stands out most to Gage is learning why Waldron chose to support the museum.
The museum now includes 14 buildings featuring exhibits ranging from trains and automobiles to genealogy and local history research.
Gage says the museum’s library has also become a valuable resource for people researching family history and learning more about the communities that helped shape Emmet County.
The Emmet County Museum is open daily from 1 to 4 p.m. during June, July and August, with additional tours often available by appointment. Gage says the museum welcomes visitors of all ages and encourages families to explore the exhibits through a hands-on experience.
