UPDATE: Alta Man Dies in Walmart Parking Lot Crash in Storm Lake

Storm Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A vehicle-pedestrian accident in the Storm Lake Walmart parking lot left an Alta man with serious injuries Thursday morning.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, emergency crews were dispatched to Walmart, located at 1831 North Lake Avenue, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday following a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

Investigators say 84-year-old Larry Spiess of Alta was walking through the parking lot when he was struck by a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 49-year-old Valentin Ventura-Mora of Storm Lake.

Spiess was transported by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of a suspected serious head injury.

No charges had been filed as of Thursday, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Fire Department and Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Ambulance.

***UPDATE***

On Thursday July 24, the Storm Police Department announced that Spiess succumbed to his injuries and passed away as a result of the collision.

 

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
