Pocahontas, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Pocahontas police arrested two individuals Saturday after an alleged armed robbery in the 200 block of 1st Avenue Southwest – across the street from the elementary school.

Police Chief Alex Leu tells KICD News his department received the report around 3:30 Saturday afternoon. He says several witnesses corroborated the victim’s story that he was robbed by two individuals and then physically assaulted while one of them held a handgun pointed at him.

Search warrants were obtained and executed leading to the arrest of 18-year-old Gideon Ayafa of Pocahontas, and a 16-year-old from Humboldt.
Ayafa has been charged with 1st degree robbery and 5th degree theft. The juvenile has been charged with 1st degree robbery, 5th degree theft, going armed with intent, and aggravated assault.

Pocahontas police were assisted by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department, and the Laurens and Humboldt police departments.
Chief Leu says there’s no reason to believe the public is in danger, but there will be added security at the school this morning.
