Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Boys Tennis team hosted Le Mars in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, part of a 3 dual week for the Tigers.

Action started off with doubles, as Colby Sherrod and Charlie Moeller dropped Set 1 to Ian DeRuyter and Tye Penne of Fort Dodge. The Duo would bounce back with a dominant 6-1 win in Set 2 to force the Set 3 tiebreaker where they picked up a 10-4 win for the Tigers.

Cole McDanel and Ade’ Thomas took on Caden Koopmans and Jaxson Albrecht in the Doubles #2 match. The Tigers picked up a 6-4 win in Set 1 before dispatching Le Mars in the 2nd set 6-2 to win 2 sets to 0.

Robbie Gerlock and Emmett Ebner combined for the Doubles #3, where they dominated Omar Camas and Hayden Bohlke of Le Mars 6-1 and 6-0 in two sets, giving Spencer a 3-0 lead in the team score going into singles.

Colby Sherrod would fight for a hard earned 2 sets to 0 win against Ian DeRuyter of Le Mars in Singles 1, taking Set 1 6-4 and Set 2 7-5.

Cole McDanel went 6-4 and 6-0 in a 2 sets to 0 sweep of Le Mars’ Tye Penne in Singles #2. McDanel says Spencer is starting to become surgical with their matches this season.

Charlie Moeller took singles #3 in quick work, 6-0 and 6-2 against Caden Koopmens of Le Mars.

Ade’ Thomas was the winner for Spencer in Doubles #4, beating Jaxson Albrecth 6-4 in Set 1 then 6-2 in Set 2 for the 2-0 sweep.

Robbie Gerlock had the most closely contested singles match of the day, falling in Set 1 to Omar Camas of Le Mars 6-3 before forcing the Set 3 tiebreaker with a 6-1 win in Set 2. Gerlock took Set 3 10-4 for the win.

Emmett Ebner won 6-1 and 6-3 in two sets against Hayden Bohlke of Le Mars, completing the 9-0 shutout for the Tigers on the day. Ebner broke down his day for Northwest Iowa Now, going over the dominant performance for him and Gerlock in Doubles 3, and a slow start in Singles #6.

Spencer improves to 3-0 on the year while Le Mars drops to 3-3. Up next for the Tigers will be a home dual on Thursday against Estherville Lincoln Central. Le Mars will complete their tour of their former Lakes Conference foes on Thursday when the welcome Spirit Lake/Okoboji.
