SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) — The Clay County Board of Supervisors is working to clarify the direction of the county’s Emergency Medical Services system.

During the regular Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, May 12th, Spencer EMS Consultant Beth Ter Horst provided an update on the advisory council’s progress.

She says the group has been actively discussing ways to improve EMS response and service across the county with the goal of faster response times and consistent 24/7 coverage.

Ter Horst added that the council now believes it may have approached the process in the wrong order.

The discussion also highlighted some confusion about roles, specifically who should be setting priorities and direction for the new system.

During that same meeting, Supervisor Allen Batschelet voiced frustration over what he described as a lack of direction and urgency.

He also warned the county could risk falling behind, with tax revenue for the new EMS system expected to start coming in later this year.

Moving forward, the board plans to hold a separate meeting to establish clearer goals and provide more direction to the advisory council.

In the meantime, the council is expected to continue refining options that can be brought back to the board for consideration.
