Spirit Lake, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — A 54 year old Spirit Lake man was arrested after a half-hour standoff with law enforcement agencies Friday afternoon in Dickinson County. Sheriff Greg Balloun says his department was called to a domestic disturbance in the 2900 block of Highway 9 West of town around 4pm, where they made phone contact with a man inside believed to be armed with a gun. The Spirit Lake and Okoboji Police Departments and officers from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department were also dispatched for backup.

After approximately 30 minutes – Adalberto Cantu Jr. – was taken into custody and charged with going armed with intent, possession of a firearm by a felon, and carrying a weapon while intoxicated. He was also charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding airflow.
