Spencer Splashpad Secured: Community & SMU Make It Happen

SPENCER, IA — The Splashpad in Spencer is a Go! The city agreed to fund 750 thousand dollars with Hotel/Motel tax proceeds, IF … the community was interested enough in the project to donate half a million.

The fundraiser was pushed over the top with Spencer Municipal Utilities buying the naming rights for 300 thousand dollars. CEO Steve Pick says it’s the type of community project his board likes to support.

Pick says it’s just the latest example in a long history of investing in Spencer’s future.

Park Board member Joe Yarkowsky says raising half a million in three months was nearly miraculous.

The engineering for the splashpad is complete and will go out for bids as soon as possible. It’s projected opening date is spring of 2027. It will be called the “SMU Family Splashpad.”
