Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The special Ward 4 City Council election in Spencer is a two-way race. The deadline for candidates to file was Friday. The only two to do so are Duane Bates – who is currently serving on the city council as an appointee – and Jim Vermeer. Both men had applied for the appointment along with two other Ward 4 residents.

The city council appointed Bates in February but a petition called for a special election – estimated to cost around 6 thousand dollars – instead.

That election will be held Tuesday, April 7th.
