Rock Rapids, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — If you’re not already skittish about fraud on the internet, Lyon County Sheriff Brian Hilt says a thief or thieves have gone old-school in Northwest Iowa.

Hilt reports a number of old-fashioned checks have been stolen from mailboxes, with the payee information altered, and the check fraudulently deposited.
He says track your checks, and you should consider electronic payments for large amounts.
