Rumor Debunked: Data Center in Palo, not Palo Alto County

Rumor Debunked: Data Center in Palo, not Palo Alto County

Emmetsburg, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Rumors have been flying across Northwest Iowa about a massive land deal in Palo Alto County—specifically, that four hundred acres of farmland may be sold for a new data center.

According to county officials, you shouldn’t believe the hype.

Palo Alto County Zoning Administrator Aletha King shot down the story this week when KICD News reached out to ask if a major tech project was coming to the area, and she was unaware of the rumor, and it isn’t not happening in Palo Alto County.

The confusion appears to be a case of mistaken identity with Palo, Iowa—located in Linn County near Cedar Rapids—where a massive data center project involving Google is actually taking place. While Palo Alto County supervisors are currently updating zoning ordinances, those changes are focused on wind and solar regulations, not server farms.
