Sibley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – A couple of Class A District 1 teams collided on Friday Night in Sibley as MMCRU visited Sibley-Ocheyedan.
The Generals scored first on a Hunter Kauffman Touchdown run, but a missed PAT kept it at 6-0.
Both defenses held strong in throughout the rest of the first half, and Sibley-Ocheyedan held a 6-0 lead at the break.
It was a big 3rd quarter for the Royals. Eli Harpenau hit Braxton Miller on a 49-yard Touchdown pass to get MMCRU on the board and then take the lead on the extra point. Harpenau picked up a 1-yard Touchdown run later on, extending the Royals lead to 8 after another successful PAT. Brennan Ball would sack Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Kauffman in the endzone for a safety, and the Royals led 16-6 going into the 3rd quarter.
Harpenau put the finishing touches on the game with a 2-yard Touchdown run in the 4th, and MMCRU rolled to a 23-6 win.
Sibley-Ocheyedan is now 1-4 on the year. Hunter Kauffman had 137 of his teams 162 yards of total offense in the loss. The Generals will be back in action next week, on the road against West Hancock.
Eli Harpenau ran for 59 yards and 2 Touchdowns while passing for 98 yards and a Touchdown in the win for MMCRU. The Royals have now won 3 consecutive since District play began after their 0-2 start to the year. They will be back in Marcus against Gehlen Catholic of Le Mars next week.
