Routine Traffic Investigation Turns Violent in Palo Alto County

PALO ALTO, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A routine investigation into a vehicle in a ditch turned violent Monday evening in Palo Alto County.

On December 15, around 5:24 PM, deputies responded to the 2800 block of 420th Avenue (Highway 4) near Graettinger.

During the investigation, the driver, identified as 74-year-old Barbara Lowman of Graettinger, allegedly assaulted a Palo Alto County Deputy.

Lowman was arrested and taken into custody. She faces an aggravated misdemeanor charge of assault on persons in certain occupations.

She was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail and is awaiting her initial court appearance.

Authorities say additional charges may be filed.
