Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Class 4A Region 1 Quarterfinal matchup was in the Fieldhouse Tuesday night as the #4 seed Spencer played host to the #5 seed Fort Dodge.

In set 1, the Tigers used a strong scoring run with Lucy Simington on the serve as well as 3 Kills from Freshman Lauren Koenig to pick up the 25-14 win.

The two teams swung back and forth in the 2nd set. The Tigers looked out of sorts early but hung around. Fort Dodge sophomore Grace Nichols had a big set with multiple Kills and Blocks. Koenig was big again for Spencer as the Tigers survived with a 25-21 win.

The story was in Fort Dodge’s resilience in Set 3. Spencer was up 24-19, but with Jonaya Foy serving, the Dodgers climbed their way back and picked up the win 27-25.

The Tigers were able to bounce back with a 25-17 win in set 4. It was back and forth early, but Brynn Merchant gave the Tigers a nice run at the serve in the middle to give the Tigers a 19-13 lead. Spencer held off another late Fort Dodge effort to pick up the win 3 sets to 1.

Fort Dodge’s season comes to an end after an 8-20 regular season with a 2-3 record in the Alliance Conference where they finished 4th.

Spencer advances to the Class 4A Region 1 Semifinal where they will match up with the #1 seed Sioux Center on the road. That game will be Thursday and News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD will carry it.
