Regional Teams Open up Season at Spencer Cross Country Meet

Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Cross Country team hosted their home meet on Thursday to open up the season at the Spencer Municipal Golf Course.

In the Girls race, Natalie Anderson of MOC-Floyd Valley took 1st, running 19:07.07. Her teammate Kienna Lassen was 2nd at 20:10.08.

Silvia Kampbell of Storm Lake would take 3rd, running 20:34.34.

Spencer’s Alexandria Palmer would finish 4th, running 21:14.96. Palmer said the Summer Miles were a big help to open up the regular season strong.

MOC-Floyd Valley got a 3rd runner in the top 10 out of 5th place Taylin Mouw who was 5th at 21:31.63.

From there it was Algona’s Mara Davis in 6th, Bishop Garrigan of Algona’s Julia Swift in 7th, then Alexis Cummins of North Union in 8th. Cummins ran a 21:51.65 which was slower than she was hoping it to be.

Le Mars’ Karis Hulinsky took 9th and wrapping up the top 10 was Okoboji’s Kaela Weston, running 22:03.56. Weston was really happy with the performance she put forward to start the season.

MOC-Floyd Valley won the team standings with 27 points, Le Mars was 2nd with 82, and Spencer took 3rd with 101. Storm Lake was 4th, Spirit Lake 5th, Okoboji 7th, Estherville Lincoln Central 8th, and Emmetsburg placed 9th.

Gavin Weber of Algona won the Boys’ Race with a time of 16:18.12.

In 2nd was Storm Lake’s Joel Ramirez-Parra with Spirit Lake’s Jace Hungerford in 3rd, running 16:44.78 and 16:50.45 respectively.

MOC-Floyd Valley’s Isaac Hummel was 4th at 16:53.71 and Spencer’s Rylei Koppie took 5th at 17:14.54. Koppie said it was one of his best times.

Alexander Ortega of Storm Lake was 6th, Malakai Vermeer of Sheldon finished 7th, Brooks Morgan of Algona was 8th, and 9th was Western Christian of Hull’s Ian Ten Napel. Thatcher Doughan of MOC-Floyd Valley rounded out the top 10.

Just missing the top 10 was Emmetsburg’s Ben Cox. Cox ran 17:47.1 and told Northwest Iowa Now about his race.

It was Storm Lake winning the team title with 59, MOC-Floyd Valley took 2nd with 72, and Spirit Lake was 3rd at 92. Okoboji placed 4th, Spencer 6th, Sheldon 8th, and Estherville Lincoln Central was 9th.
