CHEROKEE, Iowa — Northwest Iowa’s conservation priorities will take center stage this weekend as Cherokee hosts the kickoff event for the state’s 2026 Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Regional Assemblies. The public meeting is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Sanford Museum.

The biennial assembly brings together local voices to directly shape the future allocation of state conservation and historic preservation funding.

This year’s event carries a renewed emphasis on grassroots community impact, highlighting proven regional projects while simultaneously addressing ongoing efforts to activate Iowa’s long-empty Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.

Local residents and outdoor enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to attend to voice their community’s recreation and preservation needs.
