Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer team hosted Northeast on Saturday at the Northwest Iowa Soccer Field in Spencer.

It was a tough back and forth first half that the Lakers controlled most of the 45 minutes. Several opportunities for the Lakers were just missed, and the two teams were tied at 0 going into the half.

Iowa Lakes came out very aggressive in the second half, and it paid off in the first 10 minutes as Chanell Makusu broke the scoreless tie.

A little over 8 minutes later, Iowa Lakes set up a well-drawn up corner kick play that led to a goal by defender Amelie Prie.

The Lakers hot start to the second half would be enough, as they held on for a 2-0 clean-sheet victory over Northeast, a team that beat them 2-1 back on October 1st.

Iowa Lakes advances to the NJCAA Division II North Plains District Championship where they will play Top ranked Johnson County on Friday in Spencer at the Northwest Iowa Soccer Field.
