CALHOUN COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Several members of the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team were injured in a charter bus crash and rollover in Calhoun County early Wednesday morning.

The accident was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, near 220th Street on Highway 4 along the stretch locally known as the “Jolley Curves,” just west of Twin Lakes. Calhoun County officials say all available units responded, and the Iowa State Patrol confirms multiple serious injuries.

Authorities believe 33 people, including college students, were on the charter bus at the time of the crash, and the bus was the only vehicle involved, allegedly rolling multiple times. A bus from the Pocahontas Area School District was brought in at the request of Pocahontas Police Chief Alex Leu to assist with transport and support. Officials emphasized that the PACSD bus was NOT involved in the accident.

Three medical helicopters allegedly responded to the scene. UnityPoint Health reports that 10 occupants were taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, while two others were flown by air ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

As of this time, The Iowa State Patrol confirmed one death.

In an official statement, Iowa Lakes Community College said they are supporting students and communicating with families, adding that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain the school’s highest priority.

Currently, Highway 4 remains closed in both directions between 210th and 220th Streets, and traffic is currently being rerouted around the crash site.
