Rock Rapids, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Lyon County Sheriff Brian Hilt has released new information surrounding the break-in, burglary, and vandalism of the Lyon County Courthouse last week. 39-year-old Brandon Lyle High Pipe and 18-year-old Luciano Eliseo Sanchez were arrested in South Dakota Saturday, just four days after the damage was discovered by county employees who came to work Wednesday morning.

Hilt says the two were easily identified from surveillance video, and cooperating law enforcement agencies out of South Dakota – including an FBI agent – had a good idea where the two might be headed. After they were traced to an apartment in Whitewood and a vehicle was stolen in the vicinity, the vehicle was found in Spearfish and the two were taken into custody a short distance away at 1am by police from that community.

Sheriff Hilt does not know how much – if any – personal information was compromised during the incident but does not think any social security numbers were accessed; and he does not have an estimate on the total dollar amount of damage that was done.

High Pipe and Sanchez are still in South Dakota awaiting extradition to Iowa.
