Iowa Head Coach Talks Growing Up in Northwest Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — When Iowa Hawkeye Men’s Basketball Coach Ben McCollum was attending Storm Lake St. Mary’s High School in the 90s, he already had that coaching mentality and remembers putting in a lot of hard work with his teammates in basketball and baseball.

Now McCollum spends his time in Iowa City coaching at the Division 1 level. Previously, he spent 15 years at Northwest Missouri State University where he also played basketball and graduated. The one constant he has found is keeping it about the people.

The Hawkeye men’s basketball team is in the Sweet 16 tonight versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers, marking the first visit to the Sweet 16 for Iowa since 1999, when Ben McCollum was graduating high school.

KICD News asked McCollum if we can expect him and his team to visit Northwest Iowa.

The Hawkeyes vs Cornhuskers basketball game is at 6:30 tonight, March 26 on Tru TV.
