DNR Issues Storm, Spirit and Okoboji Lakes Fishing Update

NorthwestIowaNow.com — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources have the latest fishing report for Northwest Iowa, and it sounds like a great weekend to get out on the water. The cooler nights we’ve had are bringing down water temperatures, which is great news for anglers.

For those looking for an easy and fun fishing experience, the report says the panfish bite is on. Panfish, like Bluegill and Crappie, are a perfect choice because they’re plentiful and often happy to bite.

If you’re near Storm Lake, the water is in the low 70s, which is great for finding Channel Catfish from shore using nightcrawlers. If you’re heading out in a boat, Walleye can be found offshore in the dredged areas with crankbaits.

For the big lakes, West Okoboji and Spirit Lake, the action is good for bass and panfish. Anglers on West Okoboji are finding quality-sized Largemouth Bass and Bluegill. Over at Spirit Lake, look for Yellow Perch.  Black Crappie are also biting, especially near Templar Lagoon.
