Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The pilot of a small plane licensed in Illinois was able to safely land at the Spencer Municipal Airport after striking a deer when he took off from Rockwell City Saturday Night.
The flight began around 7:30pm.
Emergency officials including the Spencer Fire Department were called to the airport just in case there was a problem. The Federal Aviation Administration says the landing gear collapsed as the Piper PA – 30 touched down.
There were four people on board including the pilot and no injuries were reported.
The 1966 aircraft is registered to Aircraft Associates LLC in Chicago.
A spokesperson with the FAA says the organization maintains a database of what is referred to as “wildlife strikes” to analyze trends and implement wildlife management plans.
