Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) – A Spencer business born from the wreckage of the 2024 flood is now turning its own success into a massive boost for the community’s ongoing recovery.

General Manager Katie Morris of Fresh Start Market and Boutique

Morris says the mission of giving back was there from the start. The non-profit thrift store offers affordable products and clothing donated by the community, and pledging $120,000 is a direct result of generous donors, committed volunteers, loyal shoppers and a resilient community.

The funding comes at a critical time, as the Clay County Long Term Recovery Group continues to provide assistance to families with needs unmet over a year after the disaster.

Morris says the spirit of Fresh Start Market and Boutique, and its name, truly reflects Spencer’s attitude.

The thrift store—which offers sustainable products and clothing—was founded right after the 2024 flood to help meet community needs, and they accept donations General Manager Katie Morris says the donation is just another way to help families rebuild their lives.
