Sanborn, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — In the heart of O’Brien County, there is a place on Highway 18 that has served as Northwest Iowa’s compass for eight decades.

Jay’s Restaurant was founded in 1946 by World War II veteran Jay Jaycox and his half-brother Leroy Tinkcom and originally called Standard Cafe. Jaycox had survived 100 days in combat and another 100 days as a prisoner of war, mastered the business on grit and family recipes.

Ownership passed to Terry and Deb Jaycox in 1986, and now the legacy rests in Lee Obermoller’s hands.

Though not a Jaycox by blood, Obermoller  is bound to the traditions that made Jay’s a destination.

In Sanborn, Jay’s is not only a diner and lounge, but a vital social hub. Obermoller continues the daily dinner date specials, and a hearty breakfast menu is aavailable 7 days a week,

Jay’s Restaurant and Lounge in Sanborn is entering its ninth decade of business, and you can find their menu, fan page, and contact information at JaysinSanborn.com
