Algona, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Well over 100 Varsity Runners competed in each race Monday in Algona.
The start of the race was very congested with a tight turn within the first 400 meters.
Sioux Center’s Audrina Jones won the Girls race with a time of 19:23.65. Spencer’s Minnie Matthiesen took 9th at 20:45.87.
GTRA’s Addaley Girres was 14th at 21:12.09. Girres’ goal is to make the State meet, and she says she still has some things to improve on in order to get there.
In the Girls team scores, Clear Lake won with 60 points, Sioux Center was 2nd at 87, and Humboldt took 3rd with 97. Spencer was 5th, Spirit Lake took 8th, and Emmetsburg finished 14th.
Henry Hansen of Mason City won the Boys race with a time of 16:25.04. Spirit Lake’s Jace Hungerford took 2nd with a time of 16:34.72. Hungerford intentionally held back in the beginning of the race in order to have energy for a very hilly last half.
Sheldon’s Jayden Hegenbarth was 5th at 16:53.86 with teammate Malakai Vermeer 10th at 17:28.1.
For the Boys Team Scores, Sioux Center won with 58 points, Mason City was 2nd at 87, and Spirit Lake took 3rd with 100.
Sheldon was 6th and Spencer took 12th. The Tigers were led by an 8th grader, Bentyn Fairbanks, who was 52nd with a time of 19:00.22.
Emmetsburg took 13th with Estherville Lincoln Central 17th.
