Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Clay County Sheriff’s department says charges have been filed in a Thursday evening, August 28th accident at Spencer’s North Y at Highway 18 and 71.
Roberta Garcia, 26, of Spirit Lake was Southbound on Highway 71. 81-year-old Ruth Hoekstra of Ocheyden was Northbound and had stopped to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 18 but then proceeded West and was struck by the Garcia vehicle. Garcia’s vehicle slid into a pickup operated by Cole Mace, 31, who was Eastbound on Highway 18 and stopped at the intersection.
Garcia and Hoekstra were transported to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries. Hoekstra has been charged with failure to yield and a stop sign violation.
The accident occurred around 5pm.
