ESTHERVILLE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The prompt actions of a local resident helped contain a garage fire late Sunday night in Estherville.

At approximately 11:48 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 32-year-old Brice Sifert of Estherville was driving along North 5th Street when he noticed flames on the exterior wall of a garage. Sifert immediately stopped, ran to the front door, and began knocking to alert the homeowner, who evacuated safely. Emergency Services were later contacted.

Before fire crews arrived, Sifert retrieved a garden hose from a neighboring property and began extinguishing the flames. The homeowner joined him with a second hose, and together they worked to suppress the blaze.

The Estherville Fire Department was dispatched at 11:49 p.m. and arrived to find the fire largely under control. Firefighters confirmed that the flames had not spread to the interior of the structure. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the exterior of the garage.
