Deadline Approaches to File for Special Ward 4 City Council Election

The race for the Spencer Ward 4 City Council seat is officially on. Following a petition from local voters, a special election has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 7.If you are interested in running, the clock is ticking. Here is what you need to know:

Filing Deadline: All nomination papers must be submitted to the Clay County Auditor’s Office by 5:00 pm this Friday, March 13.

Requirements: Candidates need an Affidavit of Candidacy and a petition with at least 50 signatures from ward residents.

The election was triggered by a challenge to the recent appointment of Duane Bates, who was selected to fill the vacancy left when Donavon Wunschel became Mayor.
