Sioux Center, IA (Northwestiowanow) — Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra has officially launched his campaign race for Governor Monday night.

On Monday, November 10, at 6 p.m., Republican Feenstra held his first campaign event at Dordt University in Sioux Center. Feenstra graduated from Dordt in 1991 and later taught business and economics there for nearly eight years.

Currently, Feenstra represents Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, which spans 36 counties across Northwest and North-Central Iowa, including communities like Sioux City, Storm Lake, Spencer, and Ames.

He started with a speech to kick off his campaign.

Feenstra says he is ready to leave Washington behind and focus more on core Iowa values.

The Hull native says his campaign will center on preserving small-town values and strong leadership. While not mentioning his Republican rivals, Feenstra took time to criticize Democrat Rob Sand, who is expected to be the party’s nominee.

Feenstra says he will finish his work in Congress before shifting full-time to his campaign for governor. He expects to vote Wednesday on reopening the federal government after a 40-day shutdown.

Feenstra also says work on the Farm Bill will begin once the House reconvenes.
