SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The city of Spencer is doing a comprehensive study on its wastewater system, that might lead to an expensive update of the system that is over half a century old.

In anticipation of replacement, or at least upgrades, the city council has approved a 25 percent rate hike for ALL wastewater users.

City Manager Kevin Robinson says the city is currently examining HOW individual users are charged.

The Des Moines consulting firm PFM is assisting the city assess the fee system.

The increased revenue will be banked to lower the amount the city will have to borrow for future projects.
