Hartley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – A couple of O’Brien County schools collided in Hartley Tuesday night for War Eagle Conference girls’ and boys’ basketball as Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted South O’Brien.

South O’Brien charged out in front of the girls contest, outscoring the Hawks 17-5 in the first quarter, then adding to that lead in the 2nd with a 15-8 advantage to lead 32-13 going into the half.

The Wolverines pinned down the HMS offense in the 3rd to really put the game out of reach, only allowing 3 points while scoring 16.

South O’Brien coasted to the 56-26 route as they pick up win number 3 on the season.

Lindsey Einck, Reese Farquhar, and Abby Woodall all gave double-digit scoring efforts on the evening for South O’Brien, led by Einck’s 16 in the win.

The Hawks are now 0-7 on the year. Moriah Otto led them with 12 points.

In the Boys contest, South O’Brien held an 11-8 edge after the first quarter, and grew that lead to 6 going in to the half.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was able to just barely outscore the Wolverines 14-13 in the 3rd to get back within 5. The Hawks put together a big 4th quarter though, scoring 22 points to the Wolverines 11 as Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn completed the comeback to win 55-49.

Isaac Schierholtz had 24 in the win for HMS with Jackson Vogt adding 13 as the Hawks improve to 4-2 on the year.
