Apparent Drowning on East Lake Okoboji Launches Police Investigation

OKOBOJI, IA (Northwestiowanow) — The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent drowning reported Thursday evening on East Lake Okoboji.

According to a release from Dickinson County law enforcement, Okoboji Police were initially called June 18 to the Edgewater Plaza Condominiums for a report of a missing person.

At approximately 5:37 p.m., a person walking along the docks discovered an individual in the water.

The incident was later turned over to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office once it was determined to involve a water-related emergency. The Dickinson County Medical Examiner also responded to the scene.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, but foul play is not suspected at this time.

Agencies assisting at the scene included the Okoboji Police Department, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Arnolds Park/Okoboji Rescue, Dickinson County Medical Examiner, and Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
