Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Districts have realigned for the 2025 football season and 8-Player District 1 has a lot of big names in it.

GTRA, Harris-Lake Park, and Newell-Fonda from the KICD 9-County Area join up with last year’s 11-Player team Kingsley-Pierson, Perennial Power St. Mary’s of Remsen, Siouxland Christian of Sioux City, and St. Edmond of Fort Dodge to form the 7-team District.

Newell-Fonda already has put in a pair of games this season, with a week 0 loss to Boyer Valley than falling non-district to a 2024 11-Player team in North Union. Both of those contests were on the road and 2 of the Mustangs next 3 will be on the road as well, making for a tough start for Newell-Fonda and coach Nathan Baron.

Harris-Lake Park will try to elevate a defense that tended to struggle against high level teams in 2024. Coach Ross Wargula says the Wolves need to get back to basics on that side while keeping the offense multiple.

GTRA came away with a dominant week 1 victory, and after a rough blowout absorbed by St. Mary’s in week 1, the Titans may have emerged as the District Favorite. GTRA did lose some big pieaces from last year’s team, but a strong group of returners have made for some high expectations. Coach Todd Hough talked about managing those expectations in 2025.
