Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow) — The Black Knights Car Club is hosting its 18th annual Airport Drag Races this Sunday.

Gates at the Spencer Airport will open at 9 a.m., and residents can expect four hours of side-by-side racing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Black Knights Car Club President Nick Maranell says spectators will see a wide variety of vehicles.

Registration remains open through the day of the event, with drivers able to show up Sunday and have their vehicles inspected before participating.

Maranell says the event sees a large turnout each year.

The Airport Drags also serve as the Black Knights’ final event and fundraiser of the season. Money raised from the club’s events goes toward giving back to the community.

The 18th Annual Airport Drags take place Sunday at the Spencer Airport, located west of the Clay County Fairgrounds.

Spectator admission is $5, and those attending are encouraged to bring a folding chair. For drivers, passes are $5 each or $30 for the entire day.
