Spencer, Ia (KICD) – Spencer Girls Soccer coach John Hansel has been honored with the IGHSAU Golden Plaque Award.

The Golden Plaque of Distinction is awarded to an Iowa coach who has had a successful career while making noteworthy contributions to their school, community, and the coaching profession overall.

Hansel is to receive the accolade before the 2A State Championship match on Saturday June 3rd.

Spencer Activities Director Taylor Chapman said, “This recognition is a testament to coach Hansel’s unwavering dedication to his team, our district, and the student-athletes he mentors on a daily basis. His accomplishments and approach are an inspiration. This honor is truly well deserved”.

Hansel has an incredible head coaching record of 147-34, and has taken the Tigers to 5 consecutive State Tournaments, including 2 semi-final appearances in 2018 and 2019. Hansel has also been apart of the IGHSAU’s Soccer Advisory Committee.
