Sheldon, IA (KICD)– A group of Sheldon emergency responders are exploring the possibility of building a new fire station.

Chuck Ball from the Sheldon Fire Department went before the City Council last week noting there is a need for space with multiple options being looked at as possible solutions over the past several years.

Ball added building a new fire station would not only solve space issues for the fire department, but also for police, EMA and the local Emergency Management Agency.

Ball says once a consensus was made by the group that building a new fire station was probably the best option at this point, the task became finding a possible location that would fit the needs of first responders which they believe is where one of the city’s ball diamonds currently reside.

Plans to release 50 thousand dollars in funding to the group to get some initial drawings and cost estimates was put on hold last week as city officials take some time to look further into the proposal after multiple residents requested such action.
