Spencer, IA (KICD)– Spencer’s Fire Chief is just a couple of days away from hanging up the turn-out gear, turning off the pager and entering into retirement.

John Conyn became the leader of leader of the Spencer Fire Department in 2016 after serving multiple other communities over more than four decades and seeing some big changes to the industry.

Chief Conyn adds that teamwork is perhaps one of the greatest things he has been able to see in his time in Northwest Iowa.

Then there are always those calls that stick in the mind.

Conyn already has some plans in place that involve kicking back and enjoying life a bit, but he also has set an ambitious goal for himself.

The City of Spencer will hold a retirement reception of John Conyn on Monday starting at 5:45 prior to the regular city council meeting at Spencer City Hall.
