Spencer, IA (KICD/Radio Iowa)– Iowans planning to do some back-to-school shopping over the next couple of days stand to save big during the state’s annual sales tax holiday.

John Fuller from the Iowa Department of Revenue says there are some rules that go along with the temporary recess from paying sales tax.

Iowa’s first tax free weekend was held in 2000 and Fuller says the holiday helps the state’s economy and its businesses.

Spencer Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheriffa Jones also encourages everyone to keep local businesses in mind.

Iowa’s tax free weekend for 2023 began Friday morning at midnight and will through Saturday evening.
