Spencer, IA (KICD)– The 2022-23 school year may be wrapping up, but work is underway for an area private school to expand the age levels it will serve.

Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School currently has classes for Kindergarten through sixth grade, but Principal Sarah Popp (Pope) tells KICD News that offering will expand to seventh grade this Fall with eighth grade being offered starting with the 2024-25 academic year.

As with any big additions, Popp says there will need to be some conversation on space needs for the long-term.

Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School has asked Spencer Community Schools to allow students in the seventh and eighth grade programs the ability to participate in Middle School activities and sports. That initial conversation was started this week with the public school board opting to table a decision to next month to allow time for exact details to be worked out and questions answered.
