Sheldon, IA (KICD)– A Northwest Iowa man accused of killing his mother earlier this year in Sheldon in planning to change his plea to guilty.

42-year-old Nathaniel Kassel originally pled not guilty to the March killing of Jody Duskin in her home a day before he was taken into custody in South Dakota.

Court records show Kassel reportedly sent a message to family members before Duskin’s body was discovered saying he was planning to commit the act.

He was originally charged with first degree murder. Additional charges of operating a vehicle without owner’s consent and control of a firearm as a felon were previously dismissed by the court.

Details of the plea have not been made public, but a sentencing hearing has been set for September 18th.
