Spencer, IA (KICD)– The City of Spencer has named its next Fire Chief following a full day of interviews on Friday to narrow the pool from three to one.

Human Resources Director Jessica Wright tells KICD News the appointment of Jesse Coulson, who is coming from the Dubuque Fire Department, is going to fit the community’s needs.

Wright says the overall experience of Coulson is what set him apart from the other two finalists.

Coulson replaces John Conyn, who retired in May after serving the city of Spencer for nearly seven years. The plan is to have him in the community over the next several weeks to start interacting with the rest of the team, with an official start date sometime in early August.
